Guided excursion: Linea Cadorna at San Martino

November 14
We’ll explore the World War I Linea Cadorna defence lines (trenches, tunnels, turrets) in one of the Varese areas where these artifacts have been better restored, and visit the small but rich Museum in Cassano Valcuvia. Linea Cadorna was created to defend the Italian border from the potential invasion line through Swiss  to protect Milano and defense industry. It was never used for its intended scope, but later on smugglers, Jews escaping to Switzerland, and partisans in WWII used it to hide and escape controls.
It is possible to have lunch in a restaurant (Grotto del sorriso) or bring packed lunch (group choice) – the afternoon plan depends on this choice.
In case of little rain the excurion can take place but be mindful of slippery steps along the Linea Cadorna. in case of heavy rains the excursion will be cancelled.
