SUMMARY:Guided excursion: following the steps of cigarette smugglers along the Swiss-Italian border
DESCRIPTION:We will walk along the Swiss-Italian border following the steps of smugglers who\, during the World War years\, traded sigarettes (le bionde) but also rice\, coffee and other goods. The area between Como\, Switzerland and Italy was crossed by the outlaws and the police officers who chased them relentlessly. Our guide Antea of Controvento Trekking\, who was born and raised in these lands\, will tell us all the adventures and stories that took place in a not so distant past. \nINFO:\nMeeting point: 10.30 a.m. at Cantello (VA) – this is the start time\, get breakfast before please. return time to cars around 16.30 \nDifficulty: easy-medium\, 200m elevation gain \nTotal length: 11 km \nWhat to bring: Trekking boots\, layered warm clothes\, rain jacket\, sun hat\, water\, packed lunch. SUMMARY:Guided excursion: the petrifying springs of Montevecchia Park
DESCRIPTION:We’ll discover how the forest can hide absolutely unique and ever-changing views in a small space\, in a riot of life and colors marked by autumn. At the start\, we’ll meet Binario Vivo\, the bar\, or rather\, the warm welcome point\, located on platform 1 of the raiway station\, an inclusive project managed by the Paso Cooperative. Here\, in addition to a delicious breakfast\, you can also purchase a packed lunch. All Binario Vivo products come from local farms. But be careful! No plastic bottles are for sale. SUMMARY:Guided excursion: Linea Cadorna at San Martino
DESCRIPTION:We’ll explore the World War I Linea Cadorna defence lines (trenches\, tunnels\, turrets) in one of the Varese areas where these artifacts have been better restored\, and visit the small but rich Museum in Cassano Valcuvia. Linea Cadorna was created to defend the Italian border from the potential invasion line through Swiss  to protect Milano and defense industry. It was never used for its intended scope\, but later on smugglers\, Jews escaping to Switzerland\, and partisans in WWII used it to hide and escape controls.\nIt is possible to have lunch in a restaurant (Grotto del sorriso) or bring packed lunch (group choice) – the afternoon plan depends on this choice.\nIn case of little rain the excurion can take place but be mindful of slippery steps along the Linea Cadorna. in case of heavy rains the excursion will be cancelled.\n\n\nINFO:\nMeeting point: 9.30 a.m. at Cassano Valcuvia (VA); return time to cars around 15.30 (TBC) \nDifficulty: easy-medium\, 200m elevation gain \nTotal length: 5 km \nWhat to bring: Trekking boots\, layered warm clothes\, rain jacket\, sun hat\, water\, (eventual) packed lunch.
